Dialogic is a free, open-source app that lets teachers and professional trainers easily build custom role-play scenarios where students interact with a richly responsive, text-driven interlocutor modeled to meet specific learning goals.
It combines the pedagogical power of dialogue, role-play, and scenario-based learning with the sophisticated generative capabilities of large language models.
At one end of the conversation is the student, at the other is a large language model programmed by the teacher to perform a specific role (a character in a book, a figure from history, a charismatic tutor, a professional liaison etc). As the scenario unfolds, students practice skills and explore concepts in a dynamic and engaging way. Students can then share their chat sessions with their teachers / trainers via email, facilitating feedback and further learning.
In a world where technology is rapidly reshaping education, Dialogic stands out by prioritizing interaction, creativity and play. Rather than automating the learning process or isolating the student, Dialogic allows educators to harness the power of textually-rich learning environments to enhance and personalize the process whereby knowledge gets built and transmitted.
Why try Dialogic?
- Teacher-centric design: Dialogic is crafted with educators in mind, offering flexibility and control over content and interactions. It is a completely decentralized tool, so teachers maintain complete ownership of their intellectual property.
- Engaging learning experiences: Create immersive, conversation-based activities that captivate students and enhance learning.
- Cost-effective: Teachers can choose a free model (like Llama or Gemini) or utilize OpenAI’s powerful, low-cost 4o-Mini.
- Privacy and security: No user data is stored by Dialogic, ensuring complete GDPR compliance and peace of mind for both teachers and students.
