Data Handling and Privacy Policy

Student privacy is a priority

As teachers, we understand the importance of protecting student information and ensuring a safe learning environment. This page outlines how Dialogic handles personal data to maintain student privacy and comply with relevant regulations.

Standalone application hosted on teacher’s Google Drive

  • No third-party servers: Dialogic is a standalone application that runs directly from the teacher’s Google Drive. This means that all data and interactions are managed within the teacher’s personal or institutional Google account, ensuring full control over student information.
  • No third-party access: Since Dialogic operates from the teacher’s Google Drive, no third-party services have access to any student’s data. Scenarios and any chats shared by students remain secure and private within the teacher’s own Google ecosystem.

Secure Interactions with AI

  • AI-driven conversations: When students engage in conversations with the Language Learning Model (LLM), their messages are sent directly to the LLM via a secure API connection.*
  • No data storage by Dialogic: The Dialogic app does not store any personal data or chat transcripts. Messages are transmitted in real-time to facilitate the interaction and are not retained after the session ends, unless deliberately shared by the user using one of the sharing tools.
  • GDPR compliant: Dialogic’s data handling practices adhere to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Data sharing and storage

  • Optional session sharing: The only time a session is stored is when a user explicitly chooses to share their conversation. This can be done by:
    • Direct sharing: Using a built-in sharing feature to send conversations directly to the teacher’s email address or Google Drive.
    • Email sharing: Students can share their chat transcripts with other email addresses of their choice.
  • User control: All sharing actions are initiated and controlled by the user, ensuring that no data is shared without explicit consent.

Transparency and trust

  • No hidden data collection: Dialogic does not collect, store, or analyze any data. Period.
  • Teacher oversight: Since teachers deploy Dialogic from their own Google Drive, they have complete oversight and control over the data generated within their classrooms.

* Different LLMs will handle API interactions in different ways. OpenAI, for example, does not store data sent via API or use it to train their models.
